Onward through the fog

It's been one of those "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" weeks. More, I hope, over the weekend - there is a lot going on under this surface - but here are some highlights:

* I cancelled my mini-trip to see beisbol in Phoenix on Fri/Sat because it was getting to be Too Much Stress, especially at work, and the perceived potential benefits of a break were exceeded by the perceived problems in getting out from under to go.

* A difficult situation at work was somewhat relieved, although I had one of my crying fits first.

* The fabulous Deb sent me Vosges Chocolate. I'm nibbling the muy trendy "Red Fire Bar" - chipotle and ancho chiles, cinnamon, dark chocolate. mmmmm. The chile hits later.

* The chocolate perked my mood considerably, as you might imagine.

* This morning I was tipped off to an article about food bloggers on SFGate (online Chronicle, for the three of you who haven't lived here) and was delighted to see the charming and talented Guy (aka "Dr. Biggles") of MeatHenge on the front of the section. OMG!! It's Biggles!!1! SQUEEEEEE!!1!! (Yes, I have met this guy.) It's one of the places where wondersheep's "OMGWTFBBQ!?!?!" really fits (grin).

(another article link)

I had been thinking of knocking off one of my "ten things I have done that you probably haven't" to include my front page photo appearance on the Merky Snooze food section, but Biggles has me aced on that now. I did snag the food section of the print version - the photo of him was huge!

All for now. Will clear some spam out of the church mailbox.

I have heard much about Vosges chocolate but haven't tried it yet. I've tried this Dagoba bar with chilis, though.

I wondered if you had tried it. Thanks for the tip to the Dagoba bar; I find I like "hot" chocolate and it will be good for when I would like some more. I am sure one of the fancy-ass grocers around here sells it.

Dagoba seems to be popping up a lot. It's probably only a matter of time before Whole Foods carries it.

It wouldn't surprise me if Andronico's already had it.

I will check on my next cruise-through both the west Berkeley store (near me) and the North Shattuck store (Sat. shopping run at the Cheese Borg and more). I wouldn't be surprised. They have Green and Blacks, which is First Rate Finest Kind chocolate from Britain. I did a chocolate swap with an English person from the Ship of Fools - Scharffenberger for G&B and English Cadbury.

The Berkeley Bowl also carries a nice line of chocolate, so next time I'm in there I will check.

Reminds me I need to pay up so I can start using more icons!

I've found the caramel Green & Blacks to be quite nice, was a tad disappointed by the orange spice, not sure what I was expecting.

Lately I've run across some decent Cadbury varieties at Cost Plus, probably not the same variety as you would find in the mother country, though!
