Caffiene Queens

In my post about going to the Ferry Building market, I forgot to mention that I did miss out on the Peet's grand opening on Shattuck (heard via mailing list and serenejournal). By the time I got home it was late afternoon and I was zonked.

But cat_herder went, and not only did she get free coffee, she won the raffle prize - a very nice espresso maker!

Hey, it's not mine, but I do have visiting privileges. If I had more counter space, I'd have to get something fancier than my baby Krups to keep up with her and ayse.

Technically, it's He Who Cleans whose coffee machine you would be keeping up with. I have a kettle and a drawer full of teabags and cocoa.

I guess it would be a bad idea for me to tell him that tea (Camellia sinesis) is supposed to grow in this climate? (why yes I do know where to order one)

If he's serious about the coffee bush (Peet's got fruit off its tree in the Walnut St store) he should talk to Ron S. or Ray B. and the California Rare Fruit Growers. I am told a grow light would enhance chances of fruit. But it is a pretty house plant in any case.

We're putting in a greenhouse later this summer, so that should take care of the heat issue. The light issue is not one I'd considered, but I guess we can add a light to the greenhouse for the winters. I also want to grow a clementine out there. Sources for one of those and other weird fruits would be appreciated, especially local ones where I can see the plant growing.
